About Me

Hi! I’m Evan -- composer, music director, folk musician, singer, poet, and a good many other things. I was born, raised, and educated in Bellingham, WA, and this is what made me who I am: forests, mountains, and seashores strewn with sandstone and madrona; a community flourishing with art, writing, and theatre; and of course music – sounds from the Beatles to the Bothy Band, Hendrix to Sondheim, Victoria to Vaughan Williams, and a large dose of Bulgarian ruchenitsas for good measure.

I write music – I have almost all my life. The concepts come from the many passions I grew up with and continue to develop. I write for all ensembles, though I gravitate toward choral, vocal, and orchestral music.

I teach – so much joy comes from spreading the love of music, and helping kids to grow in all the ways that music provides.

I perform – as a folk musician I feel privileged to carry on traditions that have been in existence for centuries or millennia the world over! Occasionally, I’ll sing my own songs.

You can explore, learn about, and listen to my music in the Classical and Folk pages, or find out what else I do under Commissions & Services.

I graduated from Western Washington University in the spring of 2014 with a B.Mus. in Composition and a B.A. in Linguistics. I sang in the Concert Choir, music directed the Glee Club, tied for 1st as well as a 3rd place and H.M. in the WWU Composition Contest, and had a generally excellent time. I currently reside in Bellingham, and work with Bellingham Arts Academy for Youth.
